1) Don’t skimp on your wax.
Always use a high quality and professional grade wax, such as Harley Wax. Harley Waxes are specially designed for salon use as well as home use. The wax you use should have a low melting temperature. This means that it should become pliable at a low heat to avoid burning the client. Waxes such as Harley Wax which are made with natural ingredients and essential oils are best for sensitive skins, so always check the ingredient list. The products you use reflect the image of your spa or salon so make sure you’re creating a good image.
2) Use pre-wax oil
Pre-wax oil prepares the skin for the wax treatment. Harley Wax Pre-Wax Oil creates a barrier between the skin and the wax ensuring that the wax only adheres to the hairs and not the skin. This reduces drag and pull on the skin and makes for a more comfortable wax treatment. It is also very important to check the ingredients used in your pre-wax oil to see that it is suitable for sensitive skins.
3) Use a post-wax oil.
To reduce redness, rashes and prevent ingrown hairs use a post-wax oil such as Harley After Care Oil. This product should have antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties. A good after wax oil nurtures the skin after the wax treatment and rounds off the treatment as a whole.
4) Perform a skin sensitivity test first.
It is important to check that your client is not sensitive to any of the ingredients in either the wax or pre and post wax products. A skin sensitivity test can be done on the inside of the arm to test for any reactions.
5) Know how to use different waxes.
Any good wax brand, such as Harley Wax, should have a training manual and product guide available for all their products. Make sure you know your product inside out with the help of these guides.
