5 Unusual Brazilian Wax Questions Answered

Full Post

If you are reading this, it means that by now you know that a “Brazilian” in this context does not refer to a cocktail or a dance move. That means we can skip some of the preliminary questions about ‘where’ and ‘how’ and get straight down to waxing business. We are going to discuss five questions wax clients feel a little shy to ask their therapists about a Brazilian wax, for fear of looking like an amateur. Let’s pause here for a moment… Never be too scared or embarrassed to ask questions about your treatment or how it affects your body. If after reading this, you have more questions you’ve been holding back, we would be happy to answer them. Just leave us a comment below.

What is the difference between bikini wax, full bikini and a Brazilian wax?

No one wants to look (or feel) like they are the only ones who don’t know the “lingo”. But, just like with any profession that is not your own, you are likely to have a few questions about the process. So relax, no one will think less of you for asking the difference between waxing treatments. Your therapist will happily explain what each entails so you can safely pick the one most suited to your needs. But in the meantime, here’s a quick rundown:

  • Bikini Line: This treatment can be seen as very basic housekeeping. The hair from the sides and across the top of your bikini / panty line will be cleared away.
Important: This wax treatment only deals with the frontal area.
  • Bikini Full: Similar to the basic bikini line treatment, this one allows you to decide how much of the hair in the frontal region you would like to remove. You can even decide to shape the landscape a little. Whether you choose a triangle, ‘landing strip’, or even completely bare – it’s 100% your decision.
  • Brazilian: Let’s cut to the chase… The Brazilian deals with the backside, in addition to the regions covered by the Full Bikini. This treatment will leave you feeling silky smooth, everywhere.

Will a few cocktails at lunch make the experience less painful?

Even the most experienced wax clients sometimes want to take the edge off the pain of a Brazilian wax. But, tempting as it sounds, having alcohol before a wax is counterproductive. Both alcohol and caffeine make your pores tighten and this could actually make the process more painful – no one wants that! Rather save the drinks for afterwards (when you can celebrate that it’s over) and pop two aspirin 30 minutes before your treatment to help take the edge off.

How long before I can show off my new bikini and catch a tan?

No one gets a Brazilian done so they can hide it under layers and layers of clothing – we get it! But freshly waxed skin is a little more sensitive than before a wax treatment and it really is worth it to hold off on tanning for 24-48 hours after your treatment. We cannot condone irresponsible sun exposure (besides the cancer risk, it also promotes pre-mature aging, after all), so we recommend that you continue to use sunscreen all over your body, paying special attention (at first) to the waxed area.

Do I need to delay getting ‘intimate’ after getting a Brazilian wax?

This might be one of those questions you feel awkward asking your therapist, and we understand why. But that’s why we are here! We recommend that you wait 24-48 hours after a Brazilian wax before getting intimate. Since y0u have just exposed a delicate region of your skin to something a little out of the ordinary, it is a good idea to give it a chance to recover. You might feel that too much ‘attention’ to this region too soon after a wax is not as pleasurable as it might normally be. Also, it is wise to give the hair follicles a chance to settle down and close up properly in order to prevent exposure to bacteria. This will prevent any further irritation in the area.

Top tip: We suggest you recommend Harley’s Azulene film wax or any of our superior quality hot waxes to your therapist as we have specially designed these products to give you both the most comfortable experience and the best results when waxing intimate areas.

Can I still do a Brazilian wax when I’m pregnant?

There is no reason why you can’t get a Brazilian wax during pregnancy. That said, it might not be quite a simple as it was before. Firstly, let us tackle a popular misconception about waxing during pregnancy. There is no evidence to support claims that waxing your nether regions can induce labour.
